Lincoln Alumni Endowment News

Ten years ago a dream to help Lincoln students step into a better future began to be realized with the inception of the Lincoln High School Alumni Association (LHSAA) Endowment Fund. Through continued support of Lincoln alumni and the dedicated work of the Endowment Executive Committee members this dream has become reality.

The Endowment awarded its first scholarship of $1000 three years ago. Our goal is to add more scholarships, events, projects and programs as our Endowment grows. The objective is to help Lincoln students achieve their potentials by attending vocation schools, community colleges or four year universities.

In 2009 we present three scholarships to Lincoln graduating seniors. On May 2, 2009 at the LHSAA annual membership luncheon, we honored the recipients of two of the scholarships. Miranda Hardy won the $500 scholarship and is attending Santa Clara University. Jasmine Dickinson recieved the $1500 scholarship and is attending Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. The $10,000 Bertha Hunter scholarship was awarded at commencement to Gabriel Matthews, who is attending Occidental College in Los Angeles.

On April 11, 2008, at the age of 98, Marie Allen, a beloved teacher, counselor and advocate for Lincoln High School students passed away. Marie Allen's career at Lincoln spanned 25 years, touching many lives in various ways. Her family asked that memorial contributuions be made to the LHSAA Endowment Fund.

We welcome your suggestions, donations and comments. You may contact us at LHSAA Endowment Fund - PO Box 23756 - Portland, OR 97281.

We are looking forward to 2009 and 2010 as years to grow and build. Please join us!!. We are here for their future. Will you help? If we don't ask, you can't say yes.

Lincoln Alumni Archives Now Available for Viewing

For several years the LHSAA has been collecting yearbooks, Cardinal newspapers, programs, pictures, scrapbooks, and many other items of memorabilia from Lincoln High's beginnings to the present. We now have most everything accessioned and available for viewing. Some items can even be borrowed for reunions. The LHSAA archive storage area will be open every Thursday except the first Thursday of the month from about 10:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It is located in the Downtown Storage building on NW Davis between 13th and 14th. Alumni can drop off Lincoln collectibles for donation, learn about Lincoln's history and just browse. Call the LHSAA at 503-452-2225 to make an appointment and get more information or email us at lincolnalum@hotmail.com

We Need Help With Finding Obituaries

The LHSAA has tried very hard over the years to keep a list of deceased alumni. We have always needed help identifying those who have died elsewhere, but now even in the Portland area it is difficult to identify Lincoln alumni. The Oregonian and other newspapers have cut obituaries to only a few words and do not identify high school attended or even maiden names in many cases. If you know of a Lincoln graduate who has passed away recently please let us know by sending the obituary to LHSAA - PO Box 80338 - Portland 97280. Or email us at lincolnalum@hotmail.com and let us know the name and date of death. Thank you for your help.
